About The Show

Hailing from Milwaukee and Kansas City's alternative arts scenes, artists Nathan Fox and Corey Goering collaborate in The Young Man's Game? to bring us their latest works. With influences including comics, high and low art, video games, and cable television, the artists create a visual language to explore the rights of passage from birth to adolescence, adulthood, and finally, fatherhood.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 30th, between 7 - 10 pm.

The artists will be in attendance, and refreshments will be served.

Nathan Fox Biography

Nathan Fox was born in 1975 in Washington D.C.. Raised from the age of five on the suburban outskirts of Houston, an early addiction to Cartoons, Commercials and Video Games led to a lifelong exploration of Narrative Art and the over-stimulation associated with his generation. In the hopes of making such an addiction his full time job, Nathan left Texas for Missouri where he attended the Kansas City Art Institute.

What followed over the next four years can only be described as an eye opening experience compared to the somewhat quiet Southern upbringing. The discovery of Anime, Yoshitoshi's Yukiyo-e Prints, Sideshows and Comics would lead him down the happily twisted path he still follows today.

After graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1997, Nathan pursued Illustration in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the next two years with little result. During this time however, the four man artist's group known as MACHISMO, which Fox helped found with Corey Goering, Mike Erickson and Stephen Hobson, flourished in the alternative gallery scene back in Kansas City. Frustrated with pursuing editorial illustration and working as an offset pressman, he and his wife moved to New York City in 2000 where Nathan attended The School of Visual Arts Illustration As Visual Essay Graduate Program. Those two years of graduate study would prove to be the most fruitful as Nathan has been freelancing in Illustration ever since. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Interview, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Wired, ESPN Magazine, Print, Mother Jones, Spin, Mad Magazine, DC Comics and many other publications.

Becoming a father in 2004 and the need for home ownership led Nathan and his family back to Milwaukee in 2005 where he currently resides with his wife Jennifer and their daughter Maille Rose.

Future projects include continued collaboration with Instant Winner Skateboards, pursuing Comics, Graphic Novels and gallery work, and the hope that he will one day be able to renovate his basement. Corey Goering Biography

In 1973, Corey Goering was born into the peculiar world that is small town middle America. A few slow years and a conservative upbringing later, he found himself studying printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he gained a good firm grasp on aesthetics, and a pretentious art school attitude while still hanging on to a portion of the small town values he acquired as a child.

After school in 1997, he became a member of MACHISMO, a four man artists group with whom he has done many collaborations, including gallery shows, an attempt at boxing as performance, and various other costumed pieces of mayhem.

Over the past two years he has found himself surprisingly happy, placed in a little old house with a great big yard in a suburb of Kansas City, where he has his studio and lives with his wife, daughter, and an adopted mid-town alley cat.

In his studio Corey scans image after image, taking from his vast archive of flea market acquired material. Wrestling and metal magazines, old children's books, and a six inch thick hardware catalog are just a few of the sources that have found there pages reassigned. With a little satire and a lot of color he gives these images a soapbox to commentate on everything from his little slice of life in the bible belt, to current affairs, and the ridiculous nature of the popular culture he's been lovingly afflicted by, from birth to present.

When he's not sculpting foam for a specialized fabrication company or navigating his daughter through her second year of life, he is currently working on finally starting a website, new pieces for shows in San Francisco and Kansas City, and a suite of prints for Cannonball Press located in Brooklyn.
