A sense of happy–go–lucky charm and positivity in Matt Furie and Jay Howell's work creates a lens of childlike curiosity through which we examine their brightly colored, stylized drawings of animal and human characters engaging in improvised comedic and sexual situations.
Collaborative works, original drawings, paintings and installations will be shown.
Jay Howell makes zines and self–published books, such as “Dogs and Dog Information” and “Let Me Tell You Where to Stick It”. His work stretches into the worlds of video, skateboards and music and he is the co–creator of record label Mt. St. Mtn. (Mountain Saint Mountain) which produces limited edition records, all of which are hand silk screened or letter pressed. His love for dogs, music, sex and good times comes through in his work.
Animals engaging in human–like situations, energy driven psychedelic color palettes and sex are omnipresent themes in Matt Furie's work. Matt's ability to capture the texture in the fur and feathers of his characters gives his drawings a captivating amount of detail. His fascination with movies, television shows and toys of generations past is evident in what he describes as children's illustrations for adults.
Matt is a leo, he enjoys long walks in the park, bubble baths, and an occasional glass of wine. He also enjoys giving and receiving massages. Matt Furie was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1979. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He currently lives in San Francisco
