About The Show
Bay Area artists, Chris Pew and Paul Urich, showcase latest work inspired by ongoing experiments into personal and outer spaces.
The topologies of mind and space begin with a model and continue with data sets to construct a theory or ideology. As interpretations of the vastness of “space” and the infinitely complex nature of the brain evolve through science, so does the imagery of interpretations of these ideas. Beginning May 12, 2007 at Receiver Gallery, Bay Area artists, Chris Pew and Paul Urich, will display their latest work which will expand the mind and elaborate on the dimensions of the multi-connected constructions of these ever-evolving theories.
Pew explores the complex dimensional vastness and the unknown in his latest imagery. While the theories involved in General Relativity don’t allow one to specify topologies of space, Pew’s imagery expands into the abstractness through the use of fine linework and complex painted shapes. Subtle uses of reflective painted surfaces incorporate ideas of dimensions unseen by the human eye.
Consciousness of the mind and imaging the power of the brain portray similar paths of exploration where Urich leads you toward an intricate mapping of a multi-connected paradigm. His gouache- on-paper pieces, and his use of line, color and form, demonstrate a personal connection to what one may view in between the space real versus unreal.
Artist Biographies
Chris Pew
Merging the dynamic, and often polar world of science and art, Oakland, Ca. artist, Chris Pew, explores ideas of an abstract cosmos and different trajectories for the unobservable universe. Chris’ work revolves around scientific theories and his art is an interpretation of those theories. His work portrays hypothetical conditions of these theories. Scientists often purely speculate on a theory that only takes place if a certain condition exists, or the theory is impossible to provide in the foreseeable future.
Paul Urich
Born in South Carolina, 1974. Lives and works in San Francisco.
