About
San Francisco artist, Kyle Ranson, showcases his new works at Receiver Gallery. The show, entitled Joyous Marriage, describes mankind’s compulsive nature to divide the accoutrement of living and human nature into disparate camps of ‘good’ and ‘evil’.
Drawing inspiration from William Blake’s literary work, “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell” and its religious undertones, Ranson brings union to these concepts of ‘good’ and ‘evil’, bringing imagery of both heaven and hell into the confined space of the gallery. The artist’s intensely intricate works embrace the dualities of man and attempt to embrace the beast within, in order to live peacefully in its presence.
Kyle will also present a mural, with Chris Duncan, at the back of Receiver in Orange Alley.
The artist will be in attendance and refreshments will be served.
This show, and our 2009 arts calendar, is supported in part by Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure grant. Thank you SOEX! Read more about Alternative Exposure, the grantees and the good people at SOEX on their website.
About the Artist
Kyle Damon Ranson was born July 31st 1969 in Manhattan, NY. With an encouraging hippie mother, he began to draw and paint in early childhood and by the time he was in high school he was taking life-drawing classes at the Lyme Academy in Connecticut. He attended three semesters at the Maryland institute, college of art and then dropped out to immerse himself in the arts and music scene in Baltimore. In 1994 he moved to San Francisco and became a part of the underground punk scene in the mission and has slowly become a pillar of the San Francisco art world.
Kyle has created large-scale installations and exhibited his works in New York, London, Barcelona, Brussels and has had several solo shows in San Francisco.
Kyle’s intensely intricate works embrace the dualities of man. Embarking on biblical and mythological themes his works seek to remind us of the archetypes of our true nature. These dualities are often described within oscillations between figurative and abstract worlds where humans both intertwine and are overwrought in a violent blending of flora and fauna. Often weighted with bold geometric forms his layering of line work forms a visceral experience that finds the universe in man and the man in the universe. Kyle Ranson currently lives and works in San Francisco.
