About The Show
EXHIBIT EXPLORES THE COLLISION OF MAN AND NATURE IN "RAPTURE VS. RUPTURE"
The human and animal figure along with their surroundings has been greatly explored throughout history. LA artist, Andrew Hem and Canadian artist, Shawn Kuruneru will display their latest work, which will confront the impact of these two diverse yet seemingly different cultures. Each artist wrangles these elements to create a refreshing look at an age-old theme.
Hem’s illustrative style allows for him to create interesting twists to the human form along with adding various elements from pop culture and an occasional ninja thrown in. His distinctive color palette of grays and blues forecasts a feeling that something just might not be right, adding to the allure of the image. Andrew works in a wide variety of mediums only exemplify his creative aptitude.
The dominant use of black and white help to drive home Shawn’s view of the surreal world of figurative collage. Birds, snakes, trees, twigs, and rocks all find there way into the human world in various combinations. The intricate brush and pen strokes of multi-faced figures bring homage’s to medieval times and folklore. In the battle between the expression of ecstasy and the state of being broken open Kuruneru will surely find a winner.
An opening reception will be held Saturday, July 14, from 7 - 10 pm. Refreshments will be served.
